Grade 4 - 8 Student Vote: Wednesday June 6, 2018
Published on May 30, 2018 15:06

Dear Saint Mary's families:

The students in Grades 4-8 will be participating in the Student Vote program along with thousands of schools across the province.  This program provides youth under the voting age with an opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and build the habits of active and engaged citizenship.  The program is an excellent way to create a ‘teachable moment’ out of the official election.  More than 2,700 schools have registered to participate in the Student Vote project for the 2018 Ontario provincial election, representing all 124 electoral districts throughout the province.

In order to prepare for this worthwhile learning opportunity, please have a discussion with your child about the candidates and their respective platforms.  We want our students to be informed when they vote.  Attached below are some wonderful links provided from CIVIX.

Mrs. Smith’s class will run the polling station on our Student Vote day of June 6th, 2018.  Her class is studying Government at this time, and her students will visit the various classes to share their research on the candidates.

Finally, our results will be sent to CIVIX Canada by their deadline, which is June 6, 2018 at 6:00 pm.  The specific results of Saint Mary's Student Vote cannot be divulged until after the actual election so stay tuned.

Thank you for your continued and ongoing support.

Mrs. Heeneman
